Eid ul-Fitr Train Service Begins as Passengers Head Home for the Holidays

The Eid ul-Fitr train service officially commenced today (24 March) with the departure of the Dhumketu Express to Rajshahi from Dhaka’s Kamalapur Railway Station at 6 am. While the early hours saw a relatively calm atmosphere, the station became increasingly crowded by midday as more passengers arrived to embark on their holiday journeys.

Smooth Yet Busy Travel Experience

Like previous years, only ticketed passengers were allowed entry onto the platform, ensuring a more organized and hassle-free boarding experience. Despite the crowd, travelers found the system smooth and efficient.

Shahan Ara, a passenger on the Jamalpur Express, shared, “I wanted to travel early with my children and elderly mother-in-law to avoid the last-minute rush. Though there is a crowd, it’s manageable, and the ticket-checking system keeps unnecessary people off the platform.”

Another traveler, Jahangir Alam, echoed similar sentiments, saying, “The crowd will peak in the next couple of days, so I sent my family home early for a comfortable journey. I’ll manage somehow later.”

Tight Security and Organized Management

To prevent unauthorized access, Kamalapur Railway Station has implemented a three-tier security check:

• First Check: In the parking area, where non-ticket holders are issued standing tickets.
• Second Check: At the ticket counters.
• Final Check: Before passengers enter the platform.

Security forces, including the police, RAB, and railway security personnel, are ensuring law and order to facilitate a smooth travel experience.

Shahadat Hossain, station manager of Dhaka Railway Station, stated, “Eid travel has begun with a higher passenger turnout. We’ve taken every precaution to ensure a safe and comfortable journey for everyone.”

A total of 43 intercity trains and 25 mail and commuter trains will depart from Dhaka Station throughout the day to accommodate the surge of travelers.
